Amicus has been racing in claiming races and tonight at Mohawk he was claimed. Each race has a condition that a horse must meet in order to be eligible to enter. One type of a race is a claimer. To enter a claimer you have to agree to sell your horse at a set price. If someone is interested to buy a horse in a claimer, they fill out a claiming form, and place it and a certified check into a locked box in the race secretary office. Before the race the box is open to determine if any horse is being claimed. If there is a claim then at the start of the race the ownership is transferred. The original owner and trainer does get to keep any purse money.
